Boy Scouts of America Prepared for Life

Our Mission

The Mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

The Vision of the Black Hills Area Council is to be a premier youth development organization recognized for the superior quality of our programs, facilities and services.

Our History

The Black Hills Area Council was granted a charter by the National Council, Boy Scouts of America in 1930, charged with the responsibility of organizing and supporting successful Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, Varsity Teams, Venturing Crews, Explorer Posts and Learning for Life Groups within its 30,000 square mile geographical boundaries. We serve close to 1,500 youth members throughout western South Dakota and eastern Wyoming and are one of the largest youth serving organizations in our community.  Click here to view our Annual Report and Council map.
